Guess How Many Cottonballs?

Hello fellow animal lovers.

Today, we are doing a contest! You and your pet can participate! It doesn't require trickly tricks or a well-trained pet, or even a pet (although they would make it more fun)! All you have to do is look at the picture of Cotten balls and guess how many cotton balls there are! The volume of the jar is 250 mL. There are big cotton bolls and small cotton balls. You can tell us your answer in the comments!

The third place prize is a personalized email from us! You will need to include your name and email in your comment for this option. We will email you letting you know that you are the one who won third place, and you can respond to that email with anything you would like to make sure you include!

The second place prize is a dedicated craft project using these cotton balls! You can dedicate the crafts to up to five people or pets you love, or yourself. We will post these crafts on our blog!

The first place prize is an interview with us! You will need to include your email in your comment for this option. We will email you saying that you won, and have you email us your appropriate questions. You can check on our blog and you will see our answers and your name in a shout out.

We will announce the winners on Saturday, June 1st! Let us know your guess in the comments! We hope you have fun!

If you have a hamster, here's a book you might like:

Our third contender is Hot Rod Hamster, by Cynthia Lord. It's about a hamster who drives a car!

Our fourth contender is called Hamsters on the Go, by Kass Reich. It's a baby book, so it does not have much of a storyline. But it has cute pictures and we thing that your little hamster will enjoy it.

If you have a guinea pig, here's a book you might like:

Philomena's New Glasses, by Breena Maloney. It is a story about three sister guinea pigs and one of them is named Philomena.  When Philomena gets glasses, her sisters want to copy everything that she does.

If you have a bunny, here's some books you might like:

Our top contender is Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake, which is about a bunny named Betty Bunny who loves chocolate cake! It is a series that also includes Betty Bunny Wants a Goal and Betty Bunny Didn't Do It.

Our second contender for bunnies is a series called Max and Ruby. Or some would call it Ruby and Max! It's also a TV show, which we will also talk about in our next post, which is about TV shows for pets.

Even though we aren't pet sitting these next animals, we also love these books!

If you like birds, here's some books you might like!

We love the Pigeon Series by Mo Willems! It's so funny and always makes us laugh! It includes some books like The Duckling Gets a Cookie, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let a Pigeon Eat a Hotdog, and more!

Our other favorite bird book is Polly and Penny by Bethany Fay. It is a book about two sister parrots named Polly and Penny who are currently living in a pet store but are eager to find a home!

If you like mice, here's a book we think you'll enjoy:

Mouse's House by Bethany Fay is a book about a mouse trying to find his house.

We also like the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, which also has a TV show. It is about giving a mouse a cookie and one thing leading to another.

We hope you and your pet enjoyed these book recommendations! Let us know what your favorite animal book is! If you read these books to your pet, let us know what they think about it! If you liked these recommendations, you can get more at our other blog, Books with Bethany and Mika.

RESULTS

Mostly As

If you got mostly As, a bunny would be good for you! According to the test, you want an energetic, high maintenance pet that you can cuddle. If you are interested in getting a bunny, you can do more research!

Mostly Bs

If you got mostly Bs, we think that a gerbil would be best for you! They love to dig. Make sure that you have a big enough tank (I know, they need a tank!) to fit a lot of bedding. Don't forget their sand bath and their wheel! If you're considering getting a gerbil, then please do more research!

Mostly Cs

If you got mostly Cs, then congratulations! According to the results, a guinea pig would be best for you! Make sure you get at least 2 of them and they have a big enclosure to run around in and lots of hay to nibble on. If you are considering getting guinea pigs, then continue with research!

Mostly Ds

If you got mostly Ds, then we think that a hamster would be best! They are nocturnal. That means that they sleep in the daytime and are awake at night. Hopefully you already knew that. If you don't, then that's too bad. Unless you're a kid, and then you should still know that. But if you're a baby, then that's fine! If you are interested in getting a hamster, please do more research than this!

Mostly Es

If you got mostly Es, then according to the quiz, none of these pets were the best fit for you. But don't worry, this is just one quiz. You can do more research to decide what type of pet fits your lifestyle and preferences.

We hope you enjoyed this quiz!

Introducing Our Mascots

Hello fellow small animal lovers,

Today we want to introduce you to our mascots, as you might have guessed from the title. It's important that you meet our mascots because you will get cute pictures of them when we have no clients. First off, we would like to show you Lizzie, our mascot of the hamster!

Here are some words from Lizzie: "Squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak."

In hamster, that means "I just wants to tells you that I iz so smart, I am iz smart, iz. You'se might even calls me a nerd, I likes beeing a nerd."

And now introducing Lana, our mascot of the bunny.

Here are some words from Lana: "Squeak squeak squeaky squeaky squeak squeak."

In rabbit, that means "Wah! Uh hmm.... hi...Am I famous now? I don't wanna be famous. Wah!"

Usually she's not this shy, so we'll just have to tell you some things that she likes to do. She likes to paint with her paws, make a mess, be read books, be cuddled, and of course, hop.

Drumroll please.... Introducing... Molly!

Here are some words from Molly: Squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak."

In gerbil, that means "It's me, Super Molly! When I grow up, I want to be a superhero and an actor and a doctor and a unicorn and a cashier and a cash register and a helper and a big girl and a reader and a librarian and a helping hand a veterinarian. I know that sounds weird, but I do. But wait, there's more, I also want to cut the grass. I would be very good at it because I would eat the grass right up. I also want to be a chef and a gamer and a musician and a biologist and a teacher and I also just want to be a cute little gerbil. And someday, when I'm bigger but not totally grown up, I would like to be a girl scout and eat cookies. I like to read, I would like to know how to read. I also want to learn how to roller skate. And I want to get a phone too so I can be a photographer. And I think that's about it, because I don't want to make this post last forever. But if you do want to make this post last forever, just call my name: Super Molly!"

Anyway, next up, we have our mascot of the Guinea Pig. Her name is Madam Guinea. Kara named her that. Remember Kara? She's the pooper scooper.

"Squeak squeak sigh."

In guinea pig, that means "I'm sleepy."

We hope that you enjoyed meeting our mascots!

Your Pets Are On Vacation Too!

 Hello fellow small animal lovers,

You might be sad to leave your pets when you're on a trip. We always were. But we want you to know that your pet is going to have a blast (while still staying safe) while you're away! We will make sure your pet has a variety of fun activities, or they can just kick their paws back and relax while munching on their favorite healthy foods.

We have petsat guinea pigs for years! Our first client, Mr. Moo, was a jolly old fellow. He was a shy little guy, but still enjoyed his stay, He warmed up to us as we got to know each other. We also watched two cute little guinea pig brothers named Bean and Moe. They sure gobbled up their lettuce and parcel! They also loved to eat dandelions in our backyard.

Our sister had a hamster named Buttons. Mr. Buttons was a very sleepy little fellow. He liked to run on his saucer, hide food, burrow, and stuff his cheeks with food like this:
Mr. Buttons
Kara and Bethany cared for Mr. Buttons while our sister was away at college. He always enjoyed his mango treats, with healthy pellets for his main meal! Mr. Buttons rated us 5,000 out of 10 stars! He didn't understand how reviews work.

And we also like bunnies!

Now we can get into the fun things your pet will experience at their stay!

Game #1
Here's a fun game that we would play with your hamster, guinea pig, or bunny: The Cup Game. You can play this game with your pet too! You need plastic or paper cups. Make sure they are very light, so your pet can pick them up. Place a cucumber under the cups, by your pet. See if your pet will realize that they need to turn over the cup to get the delicious treat!

Game #2
Treasure hunt! The first step of this game is to take a small cardboard box and cut the front of it so your bunny or guinea pigs can get in easily. Put a bit of hay at the bottom. Then put one or two treats in the box, on top of the hay. Then put more hay on top of the treats. Then add more treats. Do the same thing until the box is full! Give your pet a workout while they munch on their favorite treats! You can do the same for hamsters, but use bedding instead of hay. You might want to place your hamster on top of the bedding, since they are smaller, and it might be harder for them to get in.

If you're leaving your pet on a holiday, don't worry! You're in luck, they'll still be having fun! For Easter, they'll have an Easter Egg Hunt, with a twist! For guinea pigs, we'll cut sweet potatoes into tiny egg shapes, smush raspberries up and roll the sweet potato in them. To finish it off, we'll rip pieces of parsley up and put them on top. Then we'll hide the little eggs around their enclosure and wait for your pet to sniff them out and gobble them up! For your bunny, we'll take one bunny pellet and wrap it up in hay to make it look like an Easter egg and tie a piece of parsley around it to keep it together. Then we'll hide the little treats around their enclosure. For hamsters, you can cut a banana into the shape of a tiny easter egg and stick sunflower seeds into the banana. For gerbils, you can make lots of Easter eggs. You can cut vegetables in the shape of easter eggs and hide them in their sand bath, or do the same thing with smooshed up hay.

If your pet is staying at Christmas time, then they will all receive a special present that's fit for them and their species, and they can bring it home! If it is your pet's birthday, then we will give them a birthday present. If you would like to give them a birthday present on their birthday when you're not there, we can give it to your pet and tell them it's from you.

On Halloween, if your pets are ok with it, we can dress them up in a costume, but not fully. Just a little hat or a tiara, like this little guy:

Or maybe your little guy would prefer sunglasses or a scarf. Of course they would also receive some of their favorite treats. If you're not able to participate yourself, we'll take photos of their adventures. You could either get a picture sent to you every day, or if your pets are having a longer stay, get a few photos sent every week, or get printed photos from us when you get back. This is all completely complimentary. If your pets are staying with us and you do not want their picture to be posted on this blog, then please mention it in the email. If you didn't know, you can email us for petsitting at faykg@yahoo.com.
